Many celebrities have also fallen rendered to the special and unmatched charm of pigs.
Probably the most famous case is that of George Clooney with his Vietnamese pig pet named Max. Clooney was so devoted to the 300-pound potbellied pork that he once joked about marrying him if he could fit him into a wedding dress. The pig died when Clooney was 45, but he had lived in the actor´s Hollywood Mansion for 18 years, when he bought it for her girlfriend at that time, Kelly Preston. When she left, later to marry John Travolta, the pig stayed. Max, who had arthritis and was partially blind, would squeal nonstop at Clooney every morning until he was fed. Visitors often had to step over the beast, whose owner referred to him as "Max, the star." In 1996 there were rumours that he was about to marry French law student Celine Balitran, whom he met when she was a waitress serving him drinks in a Paris bar, but Max was said to have come between them after Clooney refused to keep the pig outside. Clooney's only concession was to suggest banning Max from the bedroom and swimming pool, but this was not enough for Miss Balitran, who left. Once, Clooney was infuriated by media reports which mistakenly said Max had died, and said at the time: "It's him I've had the longest relationship of my life with." He even credited the pig with saving his life by waking him up before an earthquake. He said: "About three minutes before, Max woke me up and kept nudging me, like he was trying to warn me. That's how smart he is". Clooney had never thought about replacing his old exotic pet. "I think Max covered all my pig needs", he said some time before Max sadly died.
Other example is that of Paris Hilton. The 31-year old celebrity and great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton (the founder of Hilton Hotels), acquired three years ago a micro pig and called it Princess Piglette. She has 13 pets at home, but Miss Pliglette is her absolute pride and joy. Paris even revealed that she and her boyfriend, baseball player Doug Reinhardt, cuddle up to the pig in bed. 'Doug and I will be lying in bed, watching DVDs, and she’ll just lie there between us,' the actress said in an interview.
The price of these micro pigs are far from tiny, with the smallest piglets going far over 1000 euros. Even fully developed, micro pigs will grow to only about 14in tall and around 65lb in weight, about the size of a small spaniel. In contrast, the average mature farm pig weighs about 1,000lb.
